wikipedia.org

Investigators are looking into a plane crash Monday in Selkirk, NY that killed two people, and emergency workers also responded to a small plane crash in Watertown, Conn. Tuesday.Police say 61-year-old Nancy Gertzberg of Petersburg was flying the Cessna Monday afternoon when it crashed into a stopped railcar at the CSX Railroad yard in Selkirk. Her co-pilot and instructor, 48-year-old Allen Richter of Delmar, was dead when emergency responders arrived. Gertzberg was found conscious but later died at Albany Medical Center. The plane had recently taken off from the South Albany Airport. Speaking on WNYT, Detective Adam Hornick of the Bethlehem Police Department says fuel from the plane has been cleaned up.

“The biggest concern obviously was the aviation fuel leak as well as extricating her from the aircraft, but that was able to be accomplished relatively rapidly due to the number of rescuers we had on the scene in a short period of time,” said Hornick.

Meanwhile, no injuries were reported when a small plane crashed in Watertown, Conn. where officials are investigating a fuel spill.
