A Republican businessman seeking his party's nomination to challenge Vermont's incumbent Democratic governor says he was arrested twice when he was in college for driving under the influence of alcohol and once for drug possession.
Scott Milne made the comments Thursday in a statement emailed to reporters.
In the statement, the 55-year-old Pomfret businessman said the arrests came during an 18-month period in college 35 years ago.
He says that he was academically successful but made poor choices that were embarrassing.
In the same statement, Milne said that in 2006 he suffered a stroke, but he has recovered and he has been medically cleared to run for governor.
Milne faces Emily Peyton and Steve Barry in the August Republican primary to challenge Democrat Peter Shumlin in November.
