Report To Be Released On Connecticut Environment

The Council on Environmental Quality is releasing its annual report on the condition of Connecticut's environment. Highlights of the new report will be discussed Wednesday at council's board meeting at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The report will examine the state's environmental condition through 2013.

Last year, after reviewing environmental data for 2012, the council concluded there were not many signs of improvement in the state's environmental quality. For example, there were more poor air quality days and more widespread hypoxia or insufficient oxygen in Long Island Sound.

Last year's report also found that land conservation efforts fell short of the state's long-term goals.

There were some modest improvements, however. For example, shoreline beaches were closed for fewer days in 2012 than in 2011.
