Vermont House Supports Studying Pot Legalization

The Vermont House has passed a measure calling for a study of marijuana legalization, while a Senate committee looks at cracking down on drivers impaired by drugs.

The legalization study was an amendment to a bill making adjustments to existing state law allowing some sick Vermonters to use marijuana to relieve their symptoms.

Colorado and Washington state have legalized marijuana by referendum. The study approved by the Vermont House and headed to the Senate would look at the potential revenue impacts of taxing and regulating marijuana.

Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday struggled to come up with standards for determining when drivers are impaired by marijuana and other drugs.
