One Fund's Feinberg Says It Helped To Bring The Community Together

The former administrator of a fund set up to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing says raising nearly $61 million helped bring the community together after the deadly attack.

The administrator, Kenneth Feinberg, says the success of One Fund Boston showed "a collective empathy" in the local community and the nation. He says it helped send a message to the attackers "how we as a people take care of our own."

The fund was set up shortly after two bombs planted near the finish line of last April's marathon killed three people and wounded more than 260. Nearly $61 million was raised and distributed to victims within 75 days.

Feinberg says that promotion by Gov. Deval Patrick and former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino helped drive donations to the fund.
