Mass. Ballot Questions Face Next Signature Hurdle

Massachusetts voters could soon have a better idea which policy questions might appear on the 2014 ballot.

Wednesday is the deadline for supporters to deliver to the secretary of state's office the nearly 69,000 certified signatures required to put their questions before voters next year.

The deadline to deliver the raw signatures to local city and town clerks for certification has already passed.

Among the measures that could be put to voters next year are questions that would hike the state's minimum wage, create nurse-patient staffing ratios and institute a statewide earned sick time policy.

Other proposals would repeal a new state law automatically linking future hikes in the gas tax to increases in the rate of inflation and another that would expand the types of bottles covered by Massachusetts' 1982 bottle deposit law.
