Vermont's Green Mountain Power has been honored by the Solar Electric Power Association for its ongoing efforts to get more electricity from the sun to its customers.
On Tuesday the association presented Green Mountain Power the 2013 investor-owned utility of the year award for its efforts to make solar power a cost-effective solution for its customers and for its efforts to make Rutland the solar capital of New England.
Solar Electric Power Association President Julia Hamm says GMP is one of the smallest investor-owned utilities in the country, but it has demonstrated a disproportionately large commitment to clean, renewable solar energy, customer choice and the communities it serves.
GMP says the award was presented at the association's annual membership meeting in Chicago.
