"The Eraser" Battles Graffiti In Springfield

The Great American Clean Up, the nation’s largest community improvement project, is taking place today  in several places, including Springfield Massachusetts. Hundreds of volunteers will pick up trash and small debris in parks, school yards and other public ways.  One of the organizers is Mike Cass, an employee in the city’s Office of Housing. His specialty is graffiti removal. Cass is so good at it that his official business card identifies him as “The Eraser.”   Cass spoke with WAMC’s Paul Tuthill.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
