Martin Luther King Day observances Monday will coincide with the second inauguration of  President Barack Obama.

People from diverse backgrounds will gather in Springfield Massachusetts Monday  for an annual celebration of the life and legacy of the civil rights leader.  Ronn Johnson, interium president of Martin Luther King Family Services says they will pause the program at noon to witness the swearing in of President Obama for his second term.

The Martin Luther King day observance in Springfield is being held at the Community Music School starting at 11AM and is open to the public.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
