A number of New York’s congressional representatives and the state’s two U.S. senators are calling on President Trump to grant New York’s major disaster declaration request. This comes after damage from Tropical Storm Isaias.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have written to the president, asking him to support Governor Andrew Cuomo’s request for a disaster declaration. They also want the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, to continue working closely with the state to complete the outstanding Preliminary Damage Assessments for several counties, including Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester. The August 4 storm caused widespread, lengthy power outages and damage. Congresswoman Nita Lowey, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, was part of a bipartisan letter, along with Congressman Eliot Engel, calling for the same.
