In New York, the Poughkeepsie Common Council will hold a special meeting and town hall Monday night on police reform and racial justice.

The City of Poughkeepsie Common Council’s special meeting is to set a public hearing on a proposed local law that would require officers to identify themselves by providing their name, rank and command. It would also require information on the complaint process following police encounters that do not result in an arrest or summons in addition to requiring officers to provide the reason for their law enforcement activity. The 6 p.m. Zoom videoconference also aims to open dialogue on policing reform and racial justice. Presenters include a city police captain, local elected officials and representatives from the New York Civil Liberties Union and Black Lives Matter Hudson Valley.
