Environmental Forum Will Feature Nine NY-17 Democratic Candidates

Nine of the Democrats who want to succeed longtime Democratic New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey will discuss environmental issues during a forum Sunday.

The Democrats are vying for the 17th District seat that contains all of Rockland County and part of Westchester. The Green New Deal; permanent shutdown and decommissioning of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, fracking and renewable energy are some of the topics expected to be discussed. Several grassroots groups from Rockland and Westchester Counties are sponsoring the environmental forum that runs from 2-to-4 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 23) at the Stony Point Center in Rockland County. Lowey is not seeking re-election to a 17th term. Westchester businessman Josh Eisen is the only Republican running for the seat.
