Democratic House Appropriators Demand Hearing On Family Separations

NY Rep. Nita Lowey

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Democrat Nita Lowey of New York, along with ranking House Democrats on three subcommittees, have written to their Republican counterparts, regarding the Trump administration’s family separation policy at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The four Democrats, including Connecticut’s Rosa DeLauro, are demanding a joint hearing to provide oversight on the use of federal funds for Trump’s and Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ zero-tolerance policy of prosecuting asylum seekers and the resulting family separations, and to examine the impact on children who have been separated from their parents. Meantime, Democratic Westchester County Executive George Latimer says he learned on Tuesday that some of these immigrant children are being placed in facilities in Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Yonkers, as well as in Lincolndale, in the Town of Somers. He praised New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s intention to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration.
