The National Weather Service has confirmed four tornadoes touched down during thunderstorms that pounded the Hudson Valley Tuesday, on both sides of the river.

There were two in Putnam County, one in Kent and the other in Patterson. Another tornado hit Newburgh in Orange County and one near Saugerties, in Ulster County. The Weather Service also says a macroburst, or thunderstorm downdraft, affected Dutchess County, along the I-84 corridor between the Beacon/Wappingers Falls area and East Fishkill/Hopewell Junction vicinity. The storms toppled trees, taking two lives in Newburgh and one in Rockland County. In addition, the Weather Service says two tornadoes hit Connecticut, where two people died.
