The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health have announced the results of sampling from certain drinking water systems.
The samples targeted drinking water systems within a half-mile radius of any facility that reported use of PFOA or PFOS containing materials such as firefighting foam. DOH identified 38 regulated drinking water systems to test in 13 counties, including Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Sullivan. PFOA and/or PFOS was not detected in the majority of samples collected from the public water supplies, and the positive detections in potable drinking water were all below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency health advisory level of 70 parts per trillion. One well that tested above this level is not being used for drinking water and is at the Sullivan County International Airport.
