NYS DEC Prohibits Fishing In Portions Of The Esopus Creek

The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an emergency regulation concerning fishing in the upper Esopus Creek.

The DEC says the emergency regulation is in effect until January 31 and prohibits fishing for all species in certain sections of the upper Esopus creek and Ashokan reservoir. Drought conditions are to blame as the Esopus Creek and its tributary streams have very low water flow, creating a stressful environment for trout. DEC officials say additional stress on these fish from angling may impact their ability to spawn.
