Authorities Charge Newburgh Man With Murdering Keyshan Gayle

Authorities say they've charged a man with fatally shooting a teenager in the City of Newburgh in the late summer.

City of Newburgh police say they arrested 22-year-old Tyler Castro of Newburgh on Wednesday and charged him with second-degree murder in the slaying of Keyshan Gayle. Police say the 18-year-old was shot in the back while standing at a Newburgh intersection late on the night of August 30. Gayle had graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in June and was headed for college. A motive for the shooting has not been released. Castro was being held in custody pending his arraignment Thursday. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer. The fatal shooting prompted a call by Gayle’s mother and community members to urge federal funding to come through for gunshot detection technology known as ShotSpotter techonology.
