County Legislator Sponsors Resolution Opposing USCG Proposal For The Hudson

WAMC, Allison Dunne

A Westchester County legislator is sponsoring a resolution in opposition to a proposal for up to 10 anchorage sites in the Hudson River.

Westchester Board of Legislators’ Minority Leader John Testa is sponsoring the resolution to show opposition to a proposed U.S. Coast Guard plan to create up to 10 sites to park as many as 43 vessels between Yonkers and Kingston. Sixteen of these vessels could be docked in Yonkers.  Testa, a Republican and former Peekskill mayor, says nearly 1000 acres of the Hudson River would be used by the anchorage sites off the shores of Westchester alone. He says the resolution has been placed on the agenda at the next Board of Legislators Environment and Health Committee meeting, with a vote of the entire Board expected at the next scheduled meeting on September 12.
