Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail Gateway Sign Is Unveiled

Partners spearheading creation of a trail linking Beacon and Cold Spring unveiled the first sign for the project this week. The trail will help improve pedestrian safety.

The partners gathered at Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park in Beacon to unveil the sign for the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail, a seven-mile pedestrian route linking Metro-North stations in Beacon and Cold Spring. Creation of the trail grew out of local concerns over safety conditions in the Route 9D corridor along the Hudson River north of Cold Spring, where there are trailheads to some of the region’s most popular hiking trails, such as Breakneck Ridge. The sign features maps and indicates where nearby trailheads in Hudson Highlands State Park can be accessed. The project has received more than $1.5 million in state funding as well as private funding. Scenic Hudson is coordinator of the project.
