More than 700 soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will leave from Orange County Tuesday for a training exercise in Louisiana.
The troops are scheduled to leave Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh 11:15 Tuesday morning to participate in a Joint Readiness Training Center exercise at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The flight includes members of Company C, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry, based at Camp Smith, near Peekskill. The Joint Readiness Training Center allows Army units to conduct combat training in a realistic environment which features an opposing force, civilian role-players on the battlefield, high-tech systems which monitor the action, and observer-controllers to evaluate unit actions. Troops return home at the end of July.
