Clearwater Returns To The Hudson, Schedules Sails For July

Courtesy of Clearwater

After an eight month U.S. Coast Guard mandated restoration of Clearwater’s hull, the sloop is back on the Hudson River with sails set to begin in July.

Clearwater traveled on top of a barge Thursday from its home port in Kingston to an Albany boatyard. The sloop then was lowered into the river where it will stay for up to a week, allowing the new oak planks to swell. She’ll then return to Kingston where the crew will up-rig the lines and sails, as well as reinstall the galley, Captain’s cabin, and the hold, readying the sloop for Clearwater’s first sails in July. Clearwater will host a public re-launch ceremony July 4th at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie followed by an evening sail. The hull restoration cost about $850,000.
