Kingston Mayor Steve Noble has filled a common council seat that has been vacant for about a week. The incoming alderman has served on the city’s Comprehensive Planning Steering Committee for the past four years.

Noble says he selected fellow Democrat and State University of New York at New Paltz history professor Reynolds, or Rennie, Scott-Childress from among 12 applicants for Ward 3. Scott-Childress fills the seat left by Democrat Brad Will, who Noble says resigned because his architectural work interfered. Scott-Childress already has a few ideas.

“The other thing that I’m particularly thinking about is ways to get people in the community to talk to one another so that instead government lead all the time, because we have all these budget constraints, how can we get people to talk to one another and perhaps develop ways make Kingston an even better place by their own initiative,” says Scott-Childress.
