The Kiryas Joel School Board has created an advisory committee to study the impact of annexation and the alteration of school district boundaries.
The village board and Monroe Town Board have approved the annexation of over 100 acres of town land into the village.
The new committee will look at all options, including the potential to alter school boundaries independent of the proposed annexation.
The committee includes school district officials from Kiryas Joel and the Monroe-Woodbury School District, as well village and town officials.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Monroe-Woodbury on this important issue,” said KJ Superintendent of Schools Joel Petlin. “It continues a long standing tradition of cooperation between our school districts, dating back to our creation in 1989. Only with the facts can we dispel the myths and better serve the needs of both our districts.”
