Bears Spotted In New York Suburbs

wikipedia.org

A black bear appears to be making rounds in New York's suburban Rockland County.

Orangetown police Sgt. David Mellin tells the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1KsA4G9 ) Orangetown residents reported seeing a small bear Saturday evening, and police got a glimpse before the animal darted into the woods.

Mellin says it looked like a bear seen in the Pearl River community on Friday, though police can't be certain.

They're the latest in series of black bear sightings recently in New York City's northern suburbs. A 150-pound black bear was been tranquilized and removed from a tree Tuesday in Yonkers. It's in Westchester County.

Back in Rockland County, there were bear sightings Tuesday in Suffern and Ramapo. A bear cub was hit and killed by a car in Montebello on Thursday.
