Supporters Of East Ramapo School District Oversight Bill Head To Albany

Several Rockland County residents plan to head to Albany Tuesday for an advocacy day. They want to urge legislators to pass an oversight bill for the East Ramapo School District.

Coalition for Oversight Now members say they will march across Empire State Plaza at 10 a.m., rally at 11, and meet with legislators throughout the day Tuesday, calling for passage of a bill introduced in February to appoint a state monitor to the East Ramapo School District. State Senator David Carlucci and Assemblymembers Ellen Jaffee and Ken Zebrowski introduced the legislation. The school board president has criticized the bill saying it does not focus on inadequate funding. The day of advocacy is co-sponsored by Strong East Ramapo, Rockland Clergy for Social Justice, the Spring Valley Chapter of the NAACP, and the Power of Ten.
