Barge Stuck Under Tappan Zee Bridge

A barge lodged itself under the Tappan Zee Bridge but didn't damage the 60-year-old crossing or the nearby bridge under construction.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/1yMfLz8 ) the bridge was inspected Tuesday as a precaution after the barge got stuck during overnight storms.

No injuries were reported.

Officials suspect the barge shifted due to unusually high tides during a thunderstorm. Construction crews noticed the barge early Tuesday and notified the Thruway Authority.

There have been at least three cases of barges belonging to the bridge builder Tappan Zee Constructors breaking free from the construction site since September 2013.

Crews are working on a $3.9 billion project to replace the bridge.
