Police Say A Man Was Struck And Killed After Running From A Trooper

State police say a New York City man has been struck by a vehicle and killed after bolting from a trooper who had pulled him over on the Thruway in the Hudson Valley.

Police say a trooper pulled over a vehicle around 5:00 Wednesday evening on I-87's northbound lanes just north of Exit 16 in the Orange County town of Woodbury. Officials say the trooper attempted to take 37-year-old Bernell Wright of the Bronx into custody for suspected drug possession, but he began to resist arrest and ran into the northbound lanes, where he was hit by a passing vehicle driven by a New Jersey man. The car overturned. The driver and his passenger were not injured. The northbound lanes were closed for about four hours after the accident.
