Ulster County Town, Village Are Ready For Streets Advisory Council

In New York’s Ulster County, a town and village are moving forward with a streets advisory council.

The Town of Wawarsing and Village of Ellenville at the end of 2014 passed Complete Streets resolutions that commit the municipalities to stronger efforts for accommodating pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit users, and people of all ages and abilities when building transportation infrastructure. The idea is to make it easier to cross streets and bike to work, for example. The resolutions also establish a joint Wawarsing Ellenville Complete Streets Advisory Council. Six members will be appointed. And applications are due February 13. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County is providing administrative and technical assistance to develop the council.
