NY Casino Decisions Draw Closer

Christopher Chappelear

A panel tasked with reviewing applications for casino licenses in upstate New York is nearing recommendations on which to select.

Following reviews and public hearings on the 16 different proposals, the state's Gaming Facility Location Board plans to meet Friday. Chairman Kevin Law says they expect to be able to make a decision when they meet again after that. In a November 18 letter to New York's Gaming Commission, Law says they have reviewed applicants' financial histories and visited their proposed sites. Up to four casino licenses are authorized to be split among three areas: the Capital Region; a portion of the Southern Tier; and the Catskills/Hudson Valley region, which alone has nine proposals.
