The president of a State University of New York community college is retiring.

SUNY Orange president Dr. William Richards Thursday announced that he will retire at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. Richards came to helm of SUNY Orange in 1993 as the eighth president, and is credited with creating a campus in Newburgh; ensuring capital improvements to the Middletown campus, including the new Rowley Center for Science and Engineering that will open this August; and completing a capital campaign that generated $25.1 million in private gifts to the college. He also instituted the college’s first five-year strategic plan.
