Two New York state lawmakers from the Hudson Valley say their legislation that would enable a waterway in Dutchess County to become eligible for federal funds awaits the governor’s signature.
The state Assembly and Senate have passed legislation authored by Assemblymember Didi Barrett and Senator Terry Gipson. The Democrats’ legislation defines Wappinger Creek as an inland waterway, making the creek eligible for federal funds for pollution cleanup, wastewater management, waterfront revitalization and flood prevention. Thirteen Dutchess County municipalities would be eligible for federal funds: Clinton; Fishkill; Hyde Park; LaGrange; Milan; Pine Plains; Pleasant Valley; Poughkeepsie; Stanford; Wappinger; Washington; Village of Millbrook; and Village of Wappingers Falls.
