A Hudson Valley congressman and his likely opponent share a common view about a major energy project that many environmentalists oppose.
Republican Nan Hayworth, who is looking to return to Congress by unseating Democratic Representative Sean Patrick Maloney in New York’s 18th district, says the Obama Administration’s announcement late last week that it will indefinitely put off a decision on whether to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline is politically motivated and harmful to the Hudson Valley in the form of high energy prices. Maloney also wants the pipeline construction to begin, saying, “construction of the Keystone XL pipeline creates thousands of new, high skilled, high paying jobs now and helps place America on a path to energy independence.” Hayworth says building Keystone, which would run from Canada to the Gulf Coast, would relieve the environmental threat to the Hudson Valley posed by transporting crude oil by rail.
