Greene County Democrat Mulls Run In NY's 19th Congressional District

In New York’s 19th congressional district, there could be another candidate vying for the Democratic nomination in 2014.

Greene County Democrat Frank Steinherr says he is in the early stages of exploring a potential run against Republican Congressman Chris Gibson in 2014. If Steinherr decides in favor of a run, that sets up a primary with Ulster County resident Sean Eldridge, who in September formally announced a campaign for the nomination to run against Gibson. Eldridge is president of a small business investment fund focused on the Hudson Valley. In a pitch e-mail to county Democratic leaders obtained by The Daily Star of Oneonta, Steinherr writes that Republicans have already started attacking Eldridge’s wealth and lack of connections with the district, something Gibson campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Valle underscores. Eldridge’s spokesman declined to comment. Steinherr, an attorney with a Manhattan law firm, also takes digs at Gibson, and says he is hearing from people in his district that they want a new voice outside the political establishment.
