A New York congresswoman from the Hudson Valley has been selected as one of three Democratic representatives to serve as a budget negotiator following a bipartisan agreement this week to reopen the federal government.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, has been selected by House Democratic leaders as one of three Democrats to serve on a conference committee in the wake of a bipartisan agreement to reopen the government and avoid default on U.S. debt. Under the agreement, Republicans okayed a budget conference committee, in which members of both parties will work to bridge the divide between their respective budgets and agree on overall spending levels. The conference committee is to report its findings by December 13. Lowey is teaming up with Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn of South Carolina and Maryland’s Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member on the Budget Committee. Four Republicans will serve on the House committee, including Chairman of the Budget Committee Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. There will be a number of budget negotiators from the Senate.
