HV Resident To Receive Service Medals

A New York Congressman Thursday is presenting a Purple Heart and other medals to a Korean War veteran in the Hudson Valley.

The medals will be awarded to Harold Tartter Jr. during a private ceremony at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System at Montrose, in Westchester, in the morning. Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney will present Tartter with a Purple Heat and other service medals earned while serving during the Korean War. Tartter grew up in Pleasant Valley, in Dutchess County, joined the National Guard in 1948 and transferred to the Army in 1949. He was injured while manning a Howitzer that the North Koreans attacked and was discharged in 1953. In the evening, Maloney will hold a meeting with his Veterans Advisory Board at his district office in Newburgh at 6:15.
