Two NY Representatives Praise Passage Of A Student Loan Act

Two congressional representatives from the Hudson Valley are hailing the passage of a bill on student-loan rates.

The house voted 392-31 to pass the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act of 2013, legislation identical to a bipartisan Senate bill passed earlier this month. Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, says the vote Wednesday evening to make college more affordable was the right thing to do for students and the nation’s long-term prosperity. Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney says the Act allows students to lock in today’s low interest rates for the life of the loan, and there are caps on future rate increases. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law.
