A college in the Hudson Valley is the recipient of a grant to help address the nation’s nursing shortage.
The more than $247,000 grant is for Mercy College, in Dobbs Ferry, in Westchester County. In announcing the grant, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, said the U.S. Health and Human Services grant is being provided through the Nurse Faculty Loan Program. Lowey says the grant is akin to a loan forgiveness program for students who go on to teach nursing. The grant will enable Mercy College to issue loans to help registered nurses who are completing their graduate education to become qualified nurse faculty members. Loan recipients who go on to become full-time faculty members at an accredited school of nursing may cancel 85 percent of the loan over four years.
