NYS Lawmakers Urge Governor To Sign Boating Safety Bill

Elected officials in New York who represent portions of Westchester County will gather this afternoon to call on the governor to sign boating safety legislation, one year since a local resident drowned following a boating accident.

26-year-old Bryan Johnson was found in the waters off City Island in the Bronx following a boating accident that allegedly was a prank gone wrong this time last year. The Ossining victim’s family has been working with state lawmakers ever since to enact boating safety legislation that would require anyone operating a mechanically propelled vessel to pass a boating safety course. State Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat, and Democratic Assemblymembers Sandy Galef and Thomas Abinanti will join local elected officials, members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the mother and grandmother of Bryan Johnson at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club. Ossining officials will rename the Ossining Boat Ramp in Johnson’s memory.
