IBM Layoffs Number Hundreds In The Hudson Valley

Reports of IBM layoffs across the U.S. and Canada are posted on an IBM employee union web site. Offices in Connecticut. Massachusetts, and Vermont are listed, and hundreds received pink slips in New York’s Hudson Valley.

The postings on the site for Alliance@IBM/Communications Workers of America Local 1701 mention layoffs in various departments, and hitting all levels of personnel. In the Hudson Valley, there are layoffs in East Fishkill and Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, numbering nearly 700, according to a statement to the media from County Executive Marc Molinaro. Workers on the Alliance site say there were layoffs in Westchester County as well, in Somers, and at IBM headquarters in Armonk. Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, whose district includes the two Dutchess County locations and Somers, says he will begin working with other elected officials and community leaders to create a Community Transition Team to leverage resources to help families through these difficult situations. An IBM spokesman says the company does not publicly discuss the details of staffing plans.
