State legislators from New York and New Jersey are teaming up to urge Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign a bill that would help the two states with flooding issues.
They want New York’s governor to sign a bi-state water commission bill that would establish a bi-state commission to address flooding and its effects in both Rockland County and adjoining Bergen County, in northern New Jersey. The area has seen lots of flooding, much of it stemming from the rivers and tributaries that stretch across state lines, and State Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat, says Cuomo should sign the legislation to formalize a bi-state partnership to coordinate remediation projects, identify flooding hazards, protect homeowners, and more. Carlucci will be joined by Democratic Assemblymembers Ellen Jaffe and Ken Zebrowski as well as other elected officials from both Rockland and Bergen Counties, in Rockland’s Pearl River. He says New Jersey has already adopted a similar law.
