County Amusement Park Revitalization Plan Moves Forward

In New York, plans have been afoot to revitalize an amusement park in the Hudson Valley, and an announcement about an agreement to get those plans in motion is expected today.

Rye Playland, a 1928 amusement park in Westchester County that sits along the Long Island Sound, has been in the red. In addition, the boardwalk and ice rink portion of the park suffered substantial damage from Superstorm Sandy. In February, the Westchester County Board of Legislators hosted a public information session on four proposals to revitalize Playland. One proposal came from Sustainable Playland, with which Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino had already signed a letter of intent in October. Later this morning, Astorino will report on the progress of his initiative to “Reinvent Playland for the 21st Century.” He says he will be joined by members of Sustainable Playland, and will detail terms of the asset management agreement reached with them.
