BEACON – Five men have taken the civil service test for the first-ever paid fire chief in the City of Beacon.  City officials are awaiting the results of the test

Mayor Randy Casale hopes chief will be selected and take office this summer.

“The soonest we would have someone in would be May to June timeframe because when the results come out, if we are going to hire somebody and we talk to him, he will probably have to give notice and by the time he relocates, it wouldn’t be overnight,” Casale said.

The job will pay about $95,000 a year.

The city council created the position to replace the current volunteer appointed chief for the fire department that is comprised of a combination of professional and volunteer firefighters.
