Two Hudson Valley towns are on the receiving end of a combined $3.6 million in federal funds. The money is to reimburse the cost of cleaning up after Superstorm Sandy.
The Town of Bedford, in Westchester County, was awarded nearly $1.2 million; and the Town of Clarkstown, in Rockland County, was granted just more than $2.4 million. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance funding reimburses the two towns for cleanup from the storm – from downed trees to debris strewn across roads. U.S. Senators from New York Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand , along with congressional representatives Nita Lowey, whose district includes Clarkstown, and Sean Patrick Maloney, whose district includes Bedford, announced the funding, saying the money will help keep residents from bearing the burden of storm-related tax hikes.
