Westboro Baptist Church members picketed two Hudson Valley locations Thursday. Member of the Kansas-based Church picket military funerals, college, and other places they say promote a gay agenda.
The four picketers first showed up outside the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, to protest the funeral service for General Norman Schwarzkopf. Then they drove across the Hudson River, to picket Vassar College, in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Before their arrival, hundreds of students and supporters of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning community attended a rally on the main campus quad, where Pastor Joseph Tolton, with the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries in New York City, and a Vassar alumnus, delivered a speech.
Vassar had been holding events all week to show the college’s commitment to inclusion.
