Report Says Two as One Would Save Money

There is a report out that offers details about whether the consolidation of the governments of a Hudson Valley town and village would save money.  In Ulster County, Town of New Paltz Supervisor Susan Zimet says the Consolidation Finance committee has delivered its long-awaited report and recommendations on the consolidation of the Town and Village governments of New Paltz.  Holding the $1 million dollar Citizen Empowerment grant as an add on, the committee has found that if the two governments were one,  based on 2011 actual expenditures, taxpayers would have realized a savings of  $1.625 million dollars. The report started with the question, “Would the taxpayers of both the Town and Village see a difference in taxes paid if the two governments were one?”
