Carlucci Calls for Fines Over Contractor-Caused Gridlock on Tappan Zee

Contractors performing daily repairs overnight on the Tappan Zee Bridge have apparently not finished in time for the morning commuter rush causing massive backups on the Thruway in Rockland County.

State Senator David Carlucci (D-Nanuet) said Tuesday that $1,000 per minute contractor fines should be increased to $10,000 for every minute they break the morning work stop deadline.

“Every day we have over 140,000 vehicles cross the Tappan Zee Bridge”, Carlucci said.  “Every minute that they sit in traffic is an effect on our quality of life, has its effect on our economy and on our environment.”

Carlucci said the state must take a zero tolerance approach to the massive TZ Bridge construction-induced tie-ups on the Thruway.
