Obama Coasts to Connecticut Win

HARTFORD, CONN. (AP) – DEMOCRAT BARACK OBAMA HAS WON THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT.

OBAMA, THE FIRST-TERM ILLINOIS SENATOR, IS BIDDING TO BECOME THE NATION'S FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT. HE DEFEATED REPUBLICAN JOHN MCCAIN, A 26-YEAR ARIZONA SENATOR WHOSE METTLE WAS TESTED DURING 51/2 YEARS AS A PRISONER OF WAR IN VIETNAM.

THE CALL WAS BASED ON AN ANALYSIS OF VOTER INTERVIEWS, CONDUCTED FOR THE AP BY EDISON MEDIA RESEARCH AND MITOFSKY INTERNATIONAL.

NEITHER CANDIDATE CAMPAIGNED IN CONNECTICUT SINCE BEFORE THE STATE PRIMARY, AS POLLS SHOWED OBAMA WITH A SIZABLE LEAD IN THE STATE.
