Santoor Ashram Benefit Concert with Tarun Bhattacharya and Friends
Tarun Bhattacharya is one of India’s most exciting performers. His mastery of complex rhythms and playful “dialogues” make his concerts a true delight. Tarun was chosen by Ravi Shankar to perform on his “Chants of India” album produced by George Harrison.
The concert will feature a sitar prelude by Diana Waldron, a student of Roop Verma. It will end with a sitar postlude featuring Shraman Sen with Uchhal Banerjee, tabla. Shraman is a student of Ustad Irshad Khan and studied with Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan as well.
Also featured are father/daughter masters of the mridangam, Ramesh Srinivasan and Satya Ramesh. The concert is a benefit for Santoor Ashram, Kolkata, a project to train disadvantaged youth in Indian Classical music.
