NEVER TWENTY ONE
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement’s #Never21 hashtag, NEVER TWENTY ONE, pays tribute to the young people of color who have been victims of gun violence in New York, Rio de Janeiro, and Johannesburg, who will never reach the age of 21. Three dancers, torsos inscribed with testimonials from the victims’ families, recount the stories through intense movement. This powerful performance draws on contemporary and intuitive dance, krump, popping, and baile funk in recounting the stories of many broken lives.
