SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER FROM 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM The Village of Altamont Archives and Museum will be hosting an event on Sunday, October 10th. In conjunction with New York State’s Path Through History weekend, we will host a Founders Day Celebration. Founders Day Celebration Sunday, October 10th - 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM On Sunday, October 10th The Village of Altamont Archives and Museum will host a Founders Day celebration beginning with Altamont’s Museum in the Streets walking exhibit. This beautifully preserved village is a gateway to the Helderbergs, featuring an original D&H Train Depot surrounded by orchards and rolling countryside. Altamont has partnered with Museum in the Streets© to create a self-guided walking tour of historic buildings and spaces. This is the first location in New York State west of the Hudson River to open a Museum in the Streets©. The tour provides photos and narratives in English and Spanish that describe the rich history of the village. Visitors to the Archives can see an exhibit showcasing items surrounding Altamont’s incorporation. In addition, there will be a new exhibit on display at the Altamont Free Library celebrating the 95th Anniversary of automobile racing at the Altamont Fairgrounds. Participants will also have the chance to sign up for a short walking tour of the village. As part of the celebration, Altamont Free Library will be recording oral history interviews of some of our longest-memoried citizens. If you or a loved one would like to reminisce about the Fair in the 40's, or Sand Street in the 70's, or AES in the 80's, you can sign up for a one-hour recording session and you can either bring your own interviewer, or let a librarian interview you, so that your stories and memories can be preserved for posterity as part of Altamont's remarkable history!
